Overview

To run Aurora-Sim the hardware requirements will vary depending on your intended usage. The software required to run Aurora-Sim is dependent on your Operating System of choice. Aurora-Sim is built natively on Microsoft Net Framework using the C# programming language and is designed to be cross platform compatible with Linux / Mac OSX running MONO which is the Linux implementation of Net Framework.

Net Framework

For all Windows based system, Net Framework 3.51 is required and recomended at this time. This can be obtained directly from Microsoft Corp. at Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP-1 download or Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Web Installer) / Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Full Installer) and Visual C# 2010 Express

MONO

For Linux & Mac systems, MONO is required to run Net Framework applications such as Aurora-Sim. Mono is generally available through the appropriate distributions for teh operating system you are using. Novell's mono, is an opensource implementation and generally provides the latest and greatest versions available and for most variants / flavours of Linux. Mono has matured a great deal and it's compatibility has improed a great deal.

We recommend using MONO 2.10.x at this time as it has roven itself over previous versions. This can be obtained directly from the Mono Project

Mono considerations Other versions may still work (from 2.4.3+). See Older Mono Considerations (FIXME) for more info on bugs that may occur. Older versions are Not Recommended due to compatibility issues.

Operating Systems

This section covers three major operating system types, as these systems are within our field of expertise. If you wish to add specific information for any other type of OS (such as solaris) please do so.

Database Systems

The default database is SqLite. However MySql (or MariaDB) are more robust database engines and perform better for large amounts of data or applications running across different servers.

If you wish to use SQLite and also have good SQL knowledge you may also wish to use an SQLite editor, although it is never recommended to directly edit the database.
